Just days before Christmas, George's boss fires him after mistakenly suspecting him to be the lover of his unfaithful wife. Meanwhile, George's own love life goes awry when he discovers that the stranger he has fallen in love with through a secret correspondence is none other than a co-worker with whom he constantly feuds.

This new adaptation of the play that inspired several movies is a warm, gentle comedy and an old-fashioned, romantic Christmas tale.

Director's Message

This new adaptation of the popular Hungarian play by Miklos Laszlo, that inspired several movies as well as a hit Broadway musical, is a warm, gentle comedy that follows the tangled tales of the employees at Hammerschmidt’s Parfumerie in Budapest, Hungary. It’s a tale as old as time: friendship, loyalty, adversities – and of course love! Set in the bustling Hungarian capital at Christmastime in 1937, just before the Nazi invasion of the country, this story of passion, redemption and folly is the perfect recipe for the upcoming Holiday Season.

I have always been drawn to this simple, heart-warming story filled with quirky and unique characters. It has been the inspiration for such films as *The Little Shop On the Corner* (with Jimmy Stewart), * In the Good Old Summertime* (with Judy Garland) and *You’ve Got Mail* (with Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks). It was also the basis of the Broadway musical *She Loves Me!*

I hope you enjoy my take on this classic tale. I’ve tried to infuse it with some touches of authentic Hungarian culture while staying true to the playwright’s intent. The cast and I have had fun re-imagining this delightful romantic comedy and hope you can lose yourself in the wonderful world of our *Parfumerie*!
