The Torch-Bearers

This comedy focuses on a hapless group of amateur theatricals as they rehearse, and ultimately perform, a show-stopping new play. Their leader, Mrs. J. Duro Pampinelli, is a brilliant caricature of self-indulgent dilettantism. Her troupe is incapable of conducting a competent rehearsal, and their public performance collapses in shambles.

The comedy that inspired 'Noises Off", this play was written at the peak of the Little Theater movement, when middle-class ladies suddenly began forming amateur companies and staging plays, revealing "what gems of talent the unfathomed caves of matrimony bear."
