  • Aug 7-8, 2019, 7:00 PM

Your Theatre, Inc. is holding auditions Wednesday, August 7 and 8 (Wed and Thu) at 7pm for all roles in the upcoming 2019-2020 Season production of Two Rooms by Lee Blessing. The performances run from March 19 to March 29, 2020.

Director Stephen R. Kay is casting three men and two women. Tryouts consist of cold readings from the script. Auditions are held in the playhouse located in St. Martin's Church/Hall complex, 136 Rivet Street at Country Street, in New Bedford. The auditions are open to all actors over the age of 16.

MICHAEL WELLS (20-40) A teacher being held hostage, connecting with his wife in imaginary conversations that share a revealing portrait of solitude and devotion as his life hangs precariously in the balance.

LANIE WELLS (20-40) A teacher married to Michael, strips a room in her home so she can symbolically share Michael's ordeal. The same room serves for both conversations with him and real talks with the reporter and State Department official.

WALKER HARRIS (25-40) Overly ambitious reporter with eye for a Pulitzer prize who prods the wife into taking action at what he labels government ineptitude and inaction.

ELLEN VAN OSS (40-65) State Department representative coolly efficient, even dispassionate in her effort to treat the matter with professional detachment at odds with the reporter.

TERRORIST (25-40) A walk-on male role without lines imprisons Michael as hostage.

Storyline: After an American teacher is held hostage in a windowless cubicle in the Middle East his wife Lanie finds herself and the US Government powerless to do anything about it. In order to symbolically share his ordeal, she strips a room in their home bare and holds a vigil for him until she can garner enough media attention to strong arm the State Department into action. As Michael's life hangs precariously in the balance, Lanie must deal with a story hungry reporter and a detached bureaucrat while hoping to find a way to reconnect with her husband.
