Your Theatre, Inc. is holding auditions August 18 at 2 P.M. and August 19 at 7 P.M. for all roles in the upcoming 2019-2020 Season production of The Torch-Bearers by George Kelly. The performances run May 7 to 17, 2020.
Director Suzanne J. Houbre is casting all roles. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script, and are held in the playhouse located in St. Martins's Church Hall complex at 136 Rivet Street (at County Street) in New Bedford. Auditions are open to all actors over the age of 16.
The Torch Bearers, takes place in the 1920's, when it was in vogue for older women to form small community theater troupes. It all begins when Mrs. Pampinelli, director of a local troupe, needs to recast her show because Mrs. Shepard's husband has just dropped dead. Mrs. Pampinelli recruits Mrs. Paula Ritter, who has never been on stage before, but was convinced that she had great talent. Paula's husband, Frederick, is not so sure about his wife's dramatic abilities after witnessing a rehearsal at their home, but the show must go on, and the performance is worse than the rehearsal! Anything that could go wrong in the show, does!
Mr. Frederick Ritter, 40+ business man, who is not convinced he is married to the next Broadway star.
Mr Huxley Hossefrosse, 38+ actor, plays the leading man.
Mr Spindler, 40ish ex armyman, Mrs Pampinelli's yes man, and sound effects man.
Mr Ralph Twiller, 25+, actor
Teddy Spearing, 25+, actor
Mr. Stage Manager, any age
Mrs. Paula Ritter, 30-40ish, Mr Ritter's wife, who replaces Clara Sheppard in the production.
Mrs. J. Duro Pampinelli, 50+, "The" director, she perceives herself as the greatest director of all time, with great knowledge of the theater, but nothing, could be further from the truth!
Mrs. Nelly Fell, 50+, old society lady, very wealthy, she is the promptress
Miss Florence McCrickett, 20+, young actress
Mrs. Clara Sheppard, 40+, recently widowed, and in grief, she attends the production to see how well her replacement does.
Jenny, any age, the Ritter's English house maid.
