Actors Cast In Jubilant Comedy

Eight area actors will perform "The Hallelujah Girls", a zany comic production slated to cap Your Theatre, Inc.’s 66th season of providing award-winning community theatre to Southeastern Bay State and surrounding communities.

Director Trudi Anne Miller, herself an acclaimed actress and recent director of Robert Harling’s "Steel Magnolias", has cast Becky Minard of Westport to play Sugar Lee Thompkins, the vivacious owner of the Spa-Dee-Dah health resort.

Elizabeth Rapoza of New Bedford will be seen as Carlene Travis, a no-nonsense gal who’s given up on romance after three husbands, and Susan Massey of New Bedford is cast as Nita Mooney, a sweet country woman who lives vicariously through romance novels.

Valerie J. Reynolds of New Bedford will play Mavis Flowers, a wise-cracking matron who enjoys partying more than being with her indifferent husband, while Marilyn Duquette of Somerset will be seen as Crystal Hart, a loveable lady who sings her own lyrics to popular Christmas songs.

Cheryl Day of Fairhaven plays Bunny Sutherland, a seemingly pleasant person who is amusingly judgmental, and Mark P. Fuller of New Bedford has been cast as Bobby Dwayne Dillahunt, a charmingly rugged man with a self depreciating sense of humor, with Robert Duquette of Somerset as Porter Padgett, a good hearted blowhard who talks a lot.

One drama critic notes that Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, authors of "The Hallelujah Girls", have "an uncanny ear for Southern comedy in producing intelligent and thoughtful writing that elegantly portrays the dignity of Southern folk."

Supported in part by Bank Five, a Your Theatre, Inc. corporate sponsor,  "The Hallelujah Girls" will run Thursdays through Saturdays May 9-11 and 16-18, 2013 at 8 p.m.  Sunday matinees on May 12 and 19, 2013 are at 2:30 p.m.

Performances will be in the handicap accessible Your Theatre, Inc. Complex at St. Martin’s Church, 136 Rivet St. at County St., New Bedford. Parking is free in the church lot on County St.

Ticket and other information about the production are available by calling Your Theatre, Inc. at 508-993-0772, or by sending e-mail to info@yourtheatre.org. The theatre’s web site is www.yourtheatre.org.
