With what Variety magazine called "an outstanding show simultaneously poignant and funny because the characters are fully dimensional and believable," Your Theatre, Inc. will use Neil Simon's comedy "Brighton Beach Memoirs" to open its 2012-2013 season.

Sponsored in part by First Citizens' Federal Credit Union, the production will run Thursdays through Saturday evenings September 13-15 and 20-22 at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees September 16 and 23 at 2:30 p.m.

Performances will be in the Your Theatre, Inc. Complex at St. Martin's Church, 136 Rivet St. at County St., New Bedford. Parking is free in the church lot on County St. The venue is handicap accessible.

Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. will direct the play which the New York Daily News said "is in many respects Simon's funniest, richest, and most affecting play."

"Brighton Beach Memoirs" focuses on a teenage boy experiencing puberty and a search for identity as he tries to deal with a family whose bonds are intense and unbreakable, yet crinkled by the wrinkles of real life.

Set in a working-class Brooklyn, New York neighborhood of 1937, in the shadow of WWII, the play's treatment of a family struggling to stay together and make ends meet provide a humorous impact on today's environment of job losses, health crises, and issues involving foreign people while offering an optimistic hope for a better tomorrow.

Ticket and other information about the production are available by calling Your Theatre, Inc. at 508 993-0772, or by sending e-mail to info@yourtheatre.org. The theatre's web site is www.yourtheatre.org.
