NEW BEDFORD, MA – Veteran Your Theatre, Inc. Director Edward J. Maguire of Fairhaven has cast eight Southcoast area actors in John Logan’s thrilling courtroom drama Never the Sinner as the third major attraction of the company’s 70th season.

Set in 1924, the play spans what was billed as Chicago’s “Crime of The Century” because the country demanded to know if two handsome and wealthy college students could be capable of having committed the pre-meditated murder of young Bobby Franks.

The cast is headed by Ian Vincent of New Bedford as Nathan Leopold and Michael Eckenreiter of Fairhaven as Richard Loeb. With the audience serving as trial judge, John Softcheck of Fairhaven will play Defense Attorney Clarence Darrow, and radio personality Taylor Cormier of New Bedford will play Prosecuting Attorney Robert Emmett Crowe.

Portraying reporters and other characters are Dennis J. Smith of Tiverton, RI and Lee Bonia, Mark P. Fuller and Stephanie Paquette of New Bedford. Sylvia White of New Bedford is Mr. Maguire’s production stage manager. Lighting design is by Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. of New Bedford, and William C. Smith of South Dartmouth will handle sound design. Set design is by Mr. Maguire.

Theatre critics have called Never the Sinner “Electrifying great theatre” and “an excellent and compelling play”. Mr. Logan’s other plays include the Tony Award winning Broadway hit Red and the popular TV series The Last Ship.

Never the Sinner opens on January 12, 2017 and runs Thursdays through Saturdays January 12, 13, 14 and 19, 20, 21 at 8 p.m. with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Sundays, January 15 and 22. Performances are held at the wheelchair accessible Your Theatre, Inc. Playhouse located at 136 Rivet St. (corner of County St.), New Bedford, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church complex. Free off-street parking entrance is on County Street.
