Cast Announced for Picasso at the Lapin Agile at Your Theatre

Your Theatre, Inc. director James Sanguinetti of New Bedford has cast eleven area actors in the zany Picasso at the Lapin Agile by actor, comedian, producer and musician Steve Martin. This is the final major production of the 76th Season.

The cast includes Sherryl Helm and Zara Lemieux of New Bedford, Lionel Lafleur of Acushnet, Eric Paradis of Fairhaven, Steven Abdow and Lauren Helley of Dartmouth, Susan Salvesen of Buzzards Bay, Richie Oliver of Lakeville, Megan Ruggiero of Pawtucket, Megan McCaughey of Swansea and Matthew Moos of Wareham. The production is stage managed by Lauren Helley of Dartmouth, with costumes by Mark P. Fuller of New Bedford, lighting and sound design by Timothy Helley of Dartmouth, technical direction from Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. of New Bedford, and with specials consultation by Alexander Sprague of Pawtucket.

This comedy imagines a 1904 meeting between Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, at a bar called the Lapin Agile in Montmartre, Paris. Both men are on the verge of amazing breakthroughs in their fields. Einstein will publish his special theory of relativity and Picasso will paint Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. At the Lapin Agile, they have a lengthy debate about the value of genius and talent, while interacting with a host of other characters. In an article for The Observer (March 13, 2009), Playwright Steve Martin states "...the play attempts to explain, in a light-hearted way, the similarity of the creative process involved in great leaps of imagination in art and science."
